Renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, who authored the best-selling book, "A Brief History of Time," soon willexperience a brief history with weightlessness.
Hawking, who uses a wheelchair and is almost completely paralyzed by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig'sdisease, plans to go on a weightless flight on April 26, officials at the flight operator said Thursday.
The flight, operated by Zero Gravity Corporation, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based space tourism and entertainment company, will take off and return to a landing strip at the Kennedy Space Center.
"As someone who has studied gravity and black holes all of my life, I am excited to experience first hand weightlessness anda zero-gravity environment," Hawking said in a statement.
The modified Boeing 727 generally soars to 32,000 feet at a sharp angle and then plunges 8,000 feet so passengers canexperience 25-second snippets of zero gravity during the descent. As the plane climbs, passengers experience 25seconds of being pushed down hard, as they feel 1.8 times the normal pull of the Earth.
Zero Gravity CEO Peter Diamandis said assistants will be onboard to help Hawking.
"The key thing here is that weightless and personal spaceflight is something available to everyone, even someone like Prof.Hawking," Diamandis told The Associated Press. "This something that almost everyone can now experience."
Zero Gravity will pick up the bill, which normally is $3,750. The company also plans to have two seats on the flight auctionedoff by two charities.
The company began offering the flights in 2004.
Last year, Hawking publicly spoke of his desire to go into space and made an appeal to Sir Richard Branson, whosecompany, Virgin Galactic, is building a suborbital spaceship that could be flying passengers as early as 2009.
Branson has decided he will personally finance Hawking's ticket into space - a flight that would normally cost $200,000.
"He's one of the greatest physicists of all time," Virgin Galactic president Will Whitehorn told AP earlier this year.
Viewpoint - Great news for Stephen! I really respect this guy. He is one of the great minds of our time. I really hope theyfind some medical advances soon to help his condition. This is one of the reason I participate in the folding at homeprogram. It learn more about this program hosted by Stanford University google “Folding At Home”.

Anna Nicole Smith's funeral is proving to be one of the most expensive events of all time ... for the people covering it! TMZhas learned that the Bahamian gated community which houses the church where Anna's funeral will take place tomorrow, isdesperately trying to cash in on the media spectacle -- by charging news crews and paparazzi agencies thousands ofdollars to get inside. Each crew that wants to get inside the community of Sandy Port is required to pay $2000 per cameraand $5000 to set up a live feed ... and they want their money tonight! Interested parties must submit a form with anauthorized credit card number before midnight, or they won't be allowed through the gate on Friday. We're told one photoagency has already forked over $15,000 for special access inside the grounds.

Viewpoint - Great news for Anna who is about to be buried. I wish I could say I'm surprised by the media circus.

I am ready for the exciting challenge that isahead, and I look forward to creating results.” Said Guoga.

In the short period of time that Poker Champs has been in business, the emerging online room has experienced phenomenalgrowth, and now stands as one of the top rooms on the internet. “Our growth has held at an average of 23% amonth since our launch last October. These numbers will be a real challenge to maintain, but all the indicators are positiveat the moment.” continues Guoga

“I believe the software is our biggest edge. The software has been voted one of the top systems in the business, and I give allcredit to our partners at Aglet, who developed the software, and continue to do fantastic work.” Notes Guoga “With thesudden and significant increase in traffic, the Aglet software has run flawlessly. We at Poker Champs owe Aglet a greatdebt, and I look forward to working with them more, and learning more from them as our partnership continues”

One of the few online rooms to be based in a European Union nation (Malta), Poker Champs prides itself on a safe playenvironment for the player, as well as a stable environment for their money. “We feel we have a license that is very strong, with our license in Malta.” Says Guoga “If a poker room is licensed in a less governed area, like Central America, orthe Caribbean, players may be taking a big risk with their money. We want people to feel safe at Poker Champs, and we feel wehave a huge edge over the competition in this regard.”

Poker Champs boasts top players like Hansen, Erik Sagstrom (an online poker legend, who is arguably the biggest onlinewinner ever), and Tony G himself as shareholders. “With Gus, Erik, and myself constantly evaluating Poker Champsstrengths, and working to improve its weaknesses, we have a room that is run with a player mindset. We feel thathaving a room where top players take an active role in management, not just wear a shirt with a logo on it, is a hugeadvantage to our player base”

Malta is a small country south of Italy in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a fully-fledged member of the European Union andtherefore bound by European and International treaties and agreements. Although there are significant savings in establishing a gaming operation in other parts of the world, where little or noregulation exists, Poker Champs truly believe that it's worth complying with the additional regulations of the EuropeanUnion and European Main banks so that they may offer a secure and safe environment for their players.

Viewpoint - Good things are happening at poker champs. I really don't like Tony G as a poker player. He never shuts up.

My Favorite Spam e-mail of the day
I don't know about you but I am consistently getting spam e-mail. Some of these e-mails totally crack me up. I've decided topost my favorite spam e-mail daily.

Just because you can think, does not mean you can write so that others can read and understand. How many people do youknow that have a MySpace page? Let's look at the uses of each one. It works the same way on the Internet. Of course, there are many English natives who lack command of their own language, but that is an article for another time. Thegreat thing about some social networking groups geared toward business minded people, is that not everyone in themembership has an poker to promote. At the very least you can hire someone to proofread your writing and edit it for you.A dream has come through for poker. See an internet version in Chinese. This Week in the Arts:poker. Hire a writer, andyou could very well take business from Americans who don't know the language very well. And, I made a few, but nothingto write home about. You will quickly outgrow a manual system, however. Social networking communities areawesome! You need to shop around a bit, but it will be worth it. Networking and advertising ARE NOT synonymous. Hirea ghostwriter, or copy editor, to make what you have to say understandable. Only over the course of the past few monthshave I found any "get rich quick" programs worth buying.

Viewpoint - I love these spam e-mails. They are usually attached to a with a picture of a stock e-mail. Crazy

Today kicks off Caffeine Awareness Month and we're buzzing with excitement at the thought of 31 days dedicated to ourfavorite addiction. In the spirit of the event, we wonder, are you aware of caffeine? Statistics suggest you are, since 90%of Americans consume caffeine daily, and it's the most widely-used drug in the world. Great! Our job is done: We're all aware ofcaffeine. But after another delicious cup of joe and some high-speed research, we discovered that we're supposed to beaware that caffeine is bad -- or at least that it has negative effects. While there are conflicting reports about its long-termeffects on health, there's no denying that trimethylxanthine has immediate effects on the body. It releases dopamine inthe brain, triggering feelings of pleasure and reward, just like food, sex, and many other drugs. Caffeine is a psychoactivedrug, after all -- a stimulant , like cocaine and methamphetamines -- and it can be addictive and even fatal inlarge doses. But is it really that bad? Humans have consumed caffeine since the Stone Age , and just look how far we'vecome since then. Can that really be a coincidence?

My Viewpoint - I can't imagine starting a day without my daily input of caffeine. I can't belive they created a whole month dedicated to making the world aware of caffeine.

Daily Update 2/28/2007

Hello and welcome to my page

I am planning on posting daily things that I find interesting on the internet. I hope you enjoy these items as much as I do.Most topics posted on this page will be completely random. Just various stories and news tidbits I have discovered today.

My Favorite Featured Story

This is an exciting season for TV fans everywhere who have patiently waited for new episodes of Lost, Heroes, Ugly Betty, and American Idol. Those four shows alone can tie you up Monday through Thursday, leaving you with little time for anything else.Of course, in a perfect world you'd never miss a show, but there's the occasional event you can't pass up, like happyhour, dinner with friends, or . That leaves us with no choice but to miss our favorite shows. Or does it?
Friends, it's time to stop planning our lives around TV shows and take advantage of some of the following alternatives

Go to the Network's site
Research has shown that online consumers spend equal amounts of time surfing the web and watching television. Last year, major networks paid attention and decided to experiment with what they called webisodes . Looks like their experimentproved successful, since now more and more networks have jumped on this trend by making their contentavailable to online viewers. ABC offers full episodes of at least eight shows including Ugly Betty, Lost, and Grey's Anatomy, whileJericho, CSI, and Survivor fans can head on over to CBS to watch any missed shows. This year ABC even dedicated aspecial site to livecasts that will air before and after the Academy Awards , although it's not clear if the show itself will be available online.
I do have a word of caution: check the network's webisode offerings before you miss a show. NBC viewers are complainingabout the Two-Minute Replays on some of their popular shows such as Medium , so do keep in mind thatnetworks don't always offer full webisodes. On the other hand, I couldn't find any shows on Fox, although last year theyannounced that 60 percent of their prime time shows would be online. (Update: Thanks to our readers, I was able to findFox full episodes on MySpace)

You'll love: That they're free and can be accessed from any computer connected to the Internet.
You'll hate: Only popular shows are online, plus you won't always find full episodes of your favorite shows.
Perfect for: Those who missed a show and want to watch it during a lunch break.
Cost: Free (if you can sit through a few commercials).
Source: Streaming video

Download it from iTunes
iTunes offers more than 200 TV shows for download starting at $1.99. They have a great mix of shows from various networks, such as MTV, ESPN, and Comedy Central. The video quality has improved, which means you can certainly watchthem on a standard television set by using an iPod AV connection kit. Downloads are pretty fast, and you can evenwatch the show while it's being saved to your computer. You can purchase a season pass to a show, which means newepisodes are automatically downloaded. The downside is that episodes begin to download a day after they've aired. Thegood news is that once you buy an episode, you can watch it on your computer, television, or iPod as many times as youwant.

You'll love: You can load the show to your iPod.
You'll hate: You can't play them on other media devices or burn them to a disk which means you'll need a big hard drive.
Perfect for: Those who like portable, commercial-free entertainment.
Cost: $1.99 per episode
Source: Download

Catch it On Demand
Cable companies offer Video On Demand services to anyone with a cable box. They have a nice selection of TV shows andmovies to choose from, but if you missed a show, the chances of catching it on demand are slim. Comcast, for example, offers a handful of shows from CBS and NBC only, and I have to say the list of shows is not spectacular. On thebright side, you can fast-forward or rewind content, it is commercial-free, and some shows are available in high-definition.

You'll love: You can catch up with a whole season of your favorite show, some in HD.
You'll hate: Shows rotate, so you better watch them before they're removed.
Perfect for: Those days when there's nothing good on TV.
Cost: Check with your cable company.
Source: Download

Friends with TiVo
TiVo can be programmed to automatically record any show you want onto its hard drive. If you're not a fan of commercials,fast-forwarding is a bonus on recorded content. The best feature is being able to control live televisionprogramming to create your own instant replays. Wait at least 15 minutes before every show, and you'll never haveto sit through commercials again. TiVo keeps beefing up its options with programs like TiVo ToGo , which enables users todownload their favorite shows to an MP3 player, personal computer, portable gaming device, or mobile phone. Shows canbe saved to DVD, giving you flexibility to watch them anywhere. A Series 3 HD TiVo is available for high-definition lovers, and adual-tuner Series 2 TiVo can record two shows at the same time. However, you do have to buy the TiVo tuner itself and paya monthly fee, but in my opinion, it's worth it.
You'll love: TiVo ToGo, Tivo Unboxed , and the ability to fast-forward through commercials.
You'll hate: The monthly fee, as well as paying for the equipment.
Perfect for: Those who want to ditch the TV ball and chain forever.
Cost: $13 monthly fee with 3-year plan + equipment costs ($50-$799)
Source: Download

Streaming vs downloads: This is very simple. Streaming video requires a connection to a computer, while down loaded material doesn't after it's stored on a hard drive. This means it is also easier to rewind or fast-forward through downloaded content, as opposed to streaming media. I'm not a fan of streaming video because speed depends on your connection, and if you have a slow connection that fails, you'll have to watch the show from the beginning all over again. Streaming media is not stored on your computer either, so you can't copy it to other media devices without the help of special software.
All these media have their advantages and disadvantages, but it's all about having an option as opposed to waiting for episodes to be aired again. Once you determine what works for you, you'll be glad you're not tied to a TV schedule again.
I want to hear about your experience with any of these methods. Which one do you prefer?

(My Viewpoint) I have a DVR from my cable company and I love it. Being able to fast forward through commercials isawesome. I don't have a lot of time to watch TV being able to fast forward through commercials lets me watch more TV.

TMZ has learned the negotiations between Howard K. Stern and Larry Birkhead now have nothing to do with little Dannielynn. It's all about money.

Sources tell TMZ that Howard K. Stern has all but conceded that Larry Birkhead is the dad. Exhibit A: TMZ's story yesterdaythat Stern has already let Birkhead spend time with the baby. We're told Stern is willing to cooperate with paternitymatters if the price is right. Specifically, sources say Stern has his eye on the Bahamian house Anna Nicole bought(not Horizons), and the boat she purchased just before her death. But that is not the end of Stern's financial wish list.Sources say he has set his sights on other assets as well.

Under the will and the laws of inheritance, Dannielynn would get all her mom's assets. Nonetheless, we're told the house, theboat and other assets are being discussed. It is unclear how Stern might lay claim to the items in question. Nonetheless,we're told that's precisely what he wants.

(My viewpoint) Just bury the poor girl. You can fight over the cash after she has been laid to rest.

Daily Update 2/27/2007

Hello and welcome to my daily update

I’m planning on posting daily things that I find interesting on the internet. I hope you enjoy these items as much as I do. Most topics posted will be completely random. Just various stories and news tidbits I enjoyed today on the internet.

BEIJING (Reuters) - Scientists in eastern China say they have succeeded in controlling the flight of pigeons with micro electrodes planted in their brains, state media reported on Tuesday. Scientists at the Robot Engineering Technology Research Centre at Shandong University of Science and Technology said there electrodes could command them to fly right or left or up or down, Xinhua news agency said. The implants stimulate different areas of the pigeon's brain according to signals sent by the scientists via computer, and force the bird to comply with their commands, Xinhua said. It's the first such successful experiment on a pigeon in the world, Xinhua quoted the centre's chief scientist, Su Xuecheng, as saying. Su and his colleagues, who Xinhua said had had similar success with mice in 2005, were improving the devices used in the experiment and hoped that the technology could be put into practical use in future. The report did not specify what practical uses the scientists saw for the remote-controlled pigeons.

(My viewpoint) Sounds like they are making some advances with mircochips controlling the brain. This could be some exciting news for people with brain damage. If they develop this technology it could be useful for people who are paralyzed.

So it looks like we know what's going to happen to Anna Nicole Smith's body -- it's going to the Bahamas. But what's really going on with Anna Nicole's body -- as in, a body that's been deceased since February 8. (Warning: this can get a little grisly, so avoid ingesting within a couple hours of eating.)

TMZ got the details of decomposition from three prominent forensic scientists, including Dr. Arpad Vass of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, a frequent consultant for police department nationwide, and here's the story. For the first few days after you stop breathing and your blood stops flowing, your body's cells still think they're alive, and start to digest themselves from the inside, though your brain cells typically die within three to seven minutes after you do. Your skin, as it begins to get ingested by enzymes, begins to slough, slip, and shrink, causing sheets of skin to fall away; it's this shrinkage that explains the myth that your hair and nails continue to grow after death. This is when things really get ugly, about four to six days after death. In what's known as putrefaction, bacteria begin to break down your body's tissues. The pancreas quickly digests itself, the gases in your abdomen start to blow up, causing green, blue and black colorations on the surface, and swelling within. Your tongue may shoot out of your mouth, and your body
will begin to explode with sulphuric (i.e., really rotten egg-like) smells.

But here's the good news for Anna -- embalming will give the body up to a year of relief, especially if done well, with synthetic fluids. Dr. Vass tells TMZ that a body embalmed at the highest level of skill could be recognizable for up to two
years.

(My viewpoint) This saga just needs to end. Let them bury Anna.

(My viewpoint) I’m still amazed at how the anti-gambling bill was passed. It should have been part of its own bill not

tagged on to another bill.

It’s all about the Oscar Buzz.

NEW YORK (AP) Ellen DeGeneres can probably put anyone at ease. Even nominees for the biggest awards in show business.
"It's my job to relax you," she told them during her Oscarcast monologue. "To put your mind at ease and make you forget that this is a make-or-break night for you. I cannot imagine what you people are going through!" She smiled an even brighter smile. "You SHOULDN'T worry about that." Teasing but unassuming, DeGeneres is always pleasant company, as she was Sunday night hosting "The 79th Annual Academy Awards" on ABC. Like her, the evening was easygoing, comfortable and reliably unsurprising.
That is, when it wasn't just dull. Aiming to give due acclaim to all the nominees (wait a minute, wasn't this supposed to be an awards show?), the broadcast began with a film montage of the hopefuls. Then the 177 nominees on hand at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre stood for applause from the rest of the house. All very cordial.
The nomination process inspired the one joke in DeGeneres' monologue that was good for a hearty laugh. She observed, "There's no rhyme or reason to who's gonna win," then went on to point out that Jennifer Hudson was voted off "American Idol" by viewers, "and yet she's here with an Oscar nomination." Then DeGeneres turned to another nominee, Al Gore. "America DID vote for him, and _" She flashed a bemused look while the audience roared with laughter and applauded. "Very complicated!"
Later, on stage, Gore thanked "all the talented people" in the movie industry "who've been part of the mission to inspire a successful response to the climate crisis," which was the focus of his film "An Inconvenient Truth."
Then, apparently warming to sidekick Leonardo DiCaprio's invitation to make "a major, major announcement," the former vice president produced a sheet of paper and seemed to be about to declare his candidacy for the 2008 presidential race but was
cut short by a swell of music. He was being played offstage by the orchestra.
He made another return trip to the stage with filmmaker Davis Guggenheim when "An Inconvenient Truth" was named best documentary. "My fellow Americans," Gore began again, then stopped himself. It was all a joke, of course. But the leisurely pace of the broadcast three hours and 50 minutes was no laughing matter. The first major award to Alan Arkin as best supporting actor in "Little Miss Sunshine" wasn't presented until 9:22 p.m. Eastern. That was just six minutes before another eagerly anticipated honor was made public: The amateur commercial submitted by Lindsay Miller of Sherman Oaks, Calif., for Dove Cream Oil Body Wash had been chosen over two other finalists to air during the commercial break. Film favorites Will Ferrell, Jack Black and John C. Reilly did a funny song-and-dance number lamenting that, as Ferrell crooned, "a comedian at the Oscars is the saddest man of all: Your movies may make millions, but your name they'll never call." The 12-member modern-dance troupe Pilobolus was delightful in cameo appearances, seen in silhouette magically forming appropriate shapes like the Oscar statuette, the van in "Little Miss Sunshine," and, omigosh, snakes on a plane! During the evening, DeGeneres made humorous passes through the hall to speak to some of the luminaries, including
soon-to-be-winner Martin Scorsese (to whom she gave a script she described as a cross between "Goodfellas" and "Big Momma's House") and Clint Eastwood (with whom she posed in a snapshot taken by nearby Steven Spielberg, for her to post, she said, on her MySpace page). It was all very comfortable, but too often bordering on the dull, even dreary. The Oscarcast almost ground to a halt during a back-and-forth session when film composer Ennio Morricone received a lifetime achievement Oscar and delivered his remarks in Italian, which presenter Clint Eastwood dutifully translated. It ate up three full minutes. It seemed so much longer. One suggestion for making the Oscarcast seem livelier in the future: Use subtitles.
Or, please, just liven it up.

This whole story line is like a train wreck. I can’t stop watching it.

The judge who ruled on who gets control of Anna Nicole Smith's body wants the starlet buried, and will not let her mom stand in his way.The appeal filed by Smith's mother, Virgie Arthur, just moments after Seidlin's teary decision to release Anna's body to Dannielynn's court-appointed guardian Thursday, was rejected early Monday morning. In the court papers obtained by TMZ, Seidlin claims that a stay would increase the "potential for adverse consequences," adding that "Arthur seeks an indefinite stay and has shown no intent to expedite the proceedings."
