If it really is what's on the inside that counts, then a lot of thin people might be in trouble. Some doctors now think that theinternal fat surrounding vital organs like the heart, liver or pancreas - invisible to the naked eye - could be as dangerous asthe more obvious external fat that bulges underneath the skin.

"Being thin doesn't automatically mean you're not fat," said Dr. Jimmy Bell, a professor of molecular imaging at ImperialCollege, London. Since 1994, Bell and his team have scanned nearly 800 people with MRI machines to create "fatmaps" showing where people store fat.
According to the data, people who maintain their weight through diet rather than exercise are likely to have major deposits ofinternal fat, even if they are otherwise slim. "The whole concept of being fat needs to be redefined," said Bell, whoseresearch is funded by Britain's Medical Research Council.

Without a clear warning signal - like a rounder middle - doctors worry that thin people may be lulled into falsely assuming thatbecause they're not overweight, they're healthy.
"Just because someone is lean doesn't make them immune to diabetes or other risk factors for heart disease," said Dr. LouisTeichholz, chief of cardiology at Hackensack Hospital in New Jersey, who was not involved in Bell's research.

Even people with normal Body Mass Index scores - a standard obesity measure that divides your weight by the square ofyour height - can have surprising levels of fat deposits inside.
Of the women scanned by Bell and his colleagues, as many as 45 percent of those with normal BMI scores (20 to 25)actually had excessive levels of internal fat. Among men, the percentage was nearly 60 percent.

Relating the news to what Bell calls "TOFIs" - people who are "thin outside, fat inside" - is rarely uneventful. "The thinnerpeople are, the bigger the surprise," he said, adding the researchers even found TOFIs among people who areprofessional models.

According to Bell, people who are fat on the inside are essentially on the threshold of being obese. They eat too many fatty, sugary foods - and exercise too little to work it off - but they are not eating enough to actually be fat. Scientists believewe naturally accumulate fat around the belly first, but at some point, the body may start storing it elsewhere.
Still, most experts believe that being of normal weight is an indicator of good health, and that BMI is a reliable measurement.

"BMI won't give you the exact indication of where fat is, but it's a useful clinical tool," said Dr. Toni Steer, a nutritionist atBritain's Medical Research Council.
Doctors are unsure about the exact dangers of internal fat, but some suspect it contributes to the risk of heart disease anddiabetes. They theorize that internal fat disrupts the body's communication systems. The fat enveloping internal organsmight be sending the body mistaken chemical signals to store fat inside organs like the liver or pancreas. This couldultimately lead to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, or heart disease.

Experts have long known that fat, active people can be healthier than their skinny, inactive counterparts. "Normal-weightpersons who are sedentary and unfit are at much higher risk for mortality than obese persons who are active and fit,"said Dr. Steven Blair, an obesity expert at the University of South Carolina.

For example, despite their ripples of fat, super-sized Sumo wrestlers probably have a better metabolic profile than some oftheir slim, sedentary spectators, Bell said. That's because the wrestlers' fat is primarily stored under the skin, not streakingthroughout their vital organs and muscles.

The good news is that internal fat can be easily burned off through exercise or even by improving your diet. "Even if you don'tsee it on your bathroom scale, caloric restriction and physical exercise have an aggressive effect on visceral fat," saidDr. Bob Ross, an obesity expert at Queen's University in Canada.

Because many factors contribute to heart disease, Teichholz says it's difficult to determine the precise danger of internal fat -though it certainly doesn't help.
"Obesity is a risk factor, but it's lower down on the totem pole of risk factors," he said, explaining that whether or not peoplesmoke, their family histories and blood pressure and cholesterol rates are more important determinants than bothexternal and internal fat.

When it comes to being fit, experts say there is no short-cut. "If you just want to look thin, then maybe dieting is enough,"Bell said. "But if you want to actually be healthy, then exercise has to be an important component of your lifestyle."

Today, he's Jared Fogel the friendly Subway guy. To scores of Indiana U. students back when, he was their in-dorm porno-rental superstore. Eat fresh!

Before he became a poster child for weight loss, the affable Subway spokestool once ran a adult film emporium from hisbedroom, reports Best Week Ever . His collection was said to be "vast and extensive," and rental rates were hard to beat -- a dollar a day per vid. "People would come from all over to take advantage of the deal," according to BWE's source.

The same source snitches that the real reason Jared started eating Subway wasn't motivated by health concerns, but sheerlaziness. Turns out that Subway happened to open a franchise on the ground floor of his dorm, so it was the closestfast-food joint to Jared's XXX lair.

We called a Subway rep, who said that the company has no knowledge of the story and that Jared was "unavailable." The repalso pointed out that legends have sprung up from time to time about Jared, including one that he'd died.

Legalization of online gambling in the United States is being supported by congress people Shelley Berkley and Barney Frankand each has expressed support for the Repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act Petition that has beenstarted by Casino Gambling Web.
Las Vegas, Nevada
(PRWEB ) May 11, 2007 -- On behalf of advice given to Casino Gambling Web , the sponsoring site of the Repeal the UIGEAPetition, by aids to both congress people Barney Frank and Shelley Berkley, the goal of the petition to Repeal theUnlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act has been changed from 400,000 signatures to 10,000 signatures.

The petition started out strong, garnering more than 2,000 signatures in the first week of its initiation. There is currently morethan 3,500 legitimate American citizen signatures.
Once the petition reaches the 10,000 signature mark it will be hand delivered to both Shelley Berkley and Barney Frank inWashington D.C. by a representative of Casino Gambling Web.
Aids to both representatives insisted that the petition to repeal the ban on Internet gambling is a worthwhile effort. BarneyFrank has consistently said the UIGEA was the 'stupidest law ever passed' and there needs to be a public outcry inorder to wake up congress people to this issue.
Shelley Berkley of Nevada said about the UIGEA that it is "designed solely to protect betting on horse racing and lotteriesover the Internet."

Both Barney Frank and Shelley Berkley have introduced legislation to ultimately repeal the UIGEA.
Congressman Frank's bill would completely legalize and regulate online gambling, while providing strict protections againstproblem gambling, money laundering, and underage gambling.
Congresswoman Shelley Berkley has introduced a bill that would study the possibility of regulations of Internet gambling. Sheclaims that there are enough safeguards out there to protect against all the issues anti-internet gambling proponents wantit banned for and her year long study would prove such protections are available.

Both of them claim that there is more than a billion dollars in tax revenue available if the US were to legalize and regulate theindustry.
Berkley's bill has many co-sponsors and faces a much more likely chance of passing than Frank's more complete pro-gambling bill.

Each representative has said that a strong public outcry will help support their bill. Aids to both representatives have beencontacted by Casino Gambling Web and each has said the petition to repeal the UIGEA should be continued indefinitely.A meeting will be held personally between Shelley Berkley and Barney Frank once the petition has reached itsgoal.

Hamas militants have suspended a TV program that featured a Mickey Mouse lookalike urging Palestinian children to fightIsrael and work for global Islamic domination, the Palestinian information minister said Wednesday.

Information Minister Mustafa Barghouti said the character - a giant black-and-white rodent with a high-pitched voice -represented a "mistaken approach" to the Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation.

He said that the program was pulled from Hamas-affiliated Al Aqsa TV at his ministry's request and "placed under review."

The character, named "Farfour," or "butterfly," but unmistakably a copy of the Disney character, preached against the U.S.and Israel each Friday on the show called "Tomorrow's Pioneers."
"You and I are laying the foundation for a world led by Islamists," Farfour squeaked on a recent episode. "We will return theIslamic community to its former greatness, and liberate Jerusalem, God willing, liberate Iraq, God willing, and liberate allthe countries of the Muslims invaded by the murderers."

Children called in to the show, many singing Hamas anthems about fighting Israel.
A spokeswoman for Burbank, Calif.-based Walt Disney Co. did not return phone calls seeking comment, and the Gaza TVstation had no comment.

The program was opposed by the Palestinian Broadcasting Corp., which is controlled by the Fatah movement of PalestinianPresident Mahmoud Abbas, a Hamas rival that shares power with the militants in the Palestinian government.

Barghouti is an independent aligned with neither Hamas nor Fatah.
Loyalists of Hamas, which is sworn to the destruction of Israel, launched the Al Aqsa satellite channel last year. Beardedyoung men read the news and Islamic music is layered over footage of masked militants firing rockets into Israel. Thechannel also broadcasts talk shows, programs about the disabled and cartoons.

Hamas loyalists also run at least five news Web sites, a newspaper and a radio station.3

Fellow broadcast personalitiesAnn Coulter and Pat Robertson spew anti-gay slurs, yet they are not fired by their networks." Hmmm, porno withintegrity!

Daily Update 05/09/2007

Hello and welcome to my page

Well it has been a very interesting month. The month of April brought me a Kidney stone and an appendectomy. Goodtimes! I'm feeling much better now so I'll start my updates again.

The queen had the last laugh. Dispensing with protocol briefly at the formal dinner she hosted for President Bush, QueenElizabeth said, "I wonder whether I should start this toast by saying, 'When I was here in 1776.'

The joke was at the expense of the president - the same president whose wife said he had to be talked into putting on themost formal dinner a White House can host - a white-tie affair.
Bush took it in stride, though, starting his toast by saying, "Your Majesty, I can't top that one."
Tuesday night's royal teasing contrasted sharply with the tightlipped, high-protocol, much-orchestrated style thatcharacterized the British monarch's six-day U.S. tour. It was in reaction to Bush's faux pas Monday after he formallygreeted the queen with trumpets, a 21-gun salute and a march by the Old Guard Fife & Drum Corp.

At one point in the South Lawn ceremony, Bush noted that the queen had dined with 10 U.S. presidents and had helped theUnited States "celebrate its bicentennial in 17 ... ." Bush caught himself and corrected the date to 1976." This broughtloud laughter from many in the invited audience of thousands.

A chagrined Bush deadpanned that the queen just "gave me a look that only a mother could give a child."

When asked Tuesday what she had told him, Bush deferred, perhaps deciding to keep it to himself. "Nah, she didn't sayanything," he told reporters.
The year 1776 cannot be a favorite year for the queen. It is the year when the monarch at the time of the American Revolution,George III, lost his richest colony.
At the Tuesday night dinner, the 81-year-old queen went on to toast her country's close relationship to the United States.

The queen concluded a rigorous schedule of events marked by frequent changes in dress and a series of colorful hats.
In Virginia, she visited Jamestown, America's first permanent English settlement, returning to a spot that she had seen asqueen in 1957, when Bush was not yet a teenager.
In Kentucky, she attended for the first time America's most famous derby, after countless scores of equestrian events athome in Britain.

In Maryland, she watched as astronauts told by video-link of their work aboard the International Space Station while shevisited NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.
In Washington, she honored American soldiers at the National World War II Memorial, visited sick children at a hospital andstood graciously as the president started to suggest she had lived in the 18th century.

Viewpoint - The funny thing is that she was there in 1776.
