Cosmonauts aboard the international space station struggled for a second day Friday to try to reboot failed computers that control the orbiting outpost's orientation.
The Russians worked on the system through the night but only succeeded in getting one of three power channels to the station's computers operating before flight controllers told them to get some sleep, NASA flight director Holly Ridings said.
Valery Lyndin, spokesman for Russia's Mission Control outside Moscow, said Friday that support staff on the ground had so far been unable to pinpoint the source of the computer failure.
"The lives of the crew are not in danger," Lyndin stressed.
He said there were no plans to evacuate the space station. A NASA official also said the chance of abandoning the space station was remote.
The station's oxygen-regeneration and all basic life-support systems are functioning properly, but the orientation system was affected by the computer problems, Lyndin said.
The troubled computers, in the Russian segment, control thrusters that are fired to orient the station and its solar panels toward the sun for maximum energy production. Gyroscopes on the station's American segments are functioning, and the station is in a more-or-less proper position, he said.
"We've had computer failures before, and we have coped with the problem, but now the situation is much more complicated," cosmonaut Pavel Vinogradov said on NTV television. "We have the shuttle docked to the station, and active work is going on at the station — the Americans' space walk. We must maintain the station's orientation."
While space shuttle Atlantis is still docked, its thrusters can help, if needed, to maintain the station's position.
NASA said the engineers tried turning off and on the power between the U.S. and Russian sections before rebooting the computers to test if perhaps a bad connection between the Russian side and a pair of new solar arrays might be the problem. They were still testing that theory Friday morning.
"A power line has a certain magnetic field around it, and that can affect systems near it," said Mike Suffredini, NASA's space station program manager. "This is the leading theory today."
The new solar arrays were connected by the Atlantis crew Monday. If the power feed from those arrays turns out to be the problem, the Russian section can still get power from other solar arrays.
Cameras, computer laptops and some lights on Atlantis were turned off Thursday to save energy in case it needs to stay an extra day at the station to help maintain the outpost's orientation while the problem with the Russian computers is addressed. The mission had already been extended from 11 to 13 days to repair the thermal blanket.
NASA has said that in a worst-case scenario, the space station's three crew members might have to return to Earth early if the computers can't be fixed.
Bill Gerstenmaier, NASA's associate administrator for space operations, called the chances of abandoning the space station because of the computer problem "remote."
"We're still a long way from where we would have to de-man the space station," Gerstenmaier said.
This type of massive computer failure had never been seen before on the space station, although individual computers do fail periodically.
"These sorts of things happen," said astronaut Ed Lu, who lived at the space station for six months in 2003. "I don't think it's that serious."
Friday afternoon, astronauts James Reilly and Danny Olivas planned to climb out of the space station to staple down a thermal blanket that peeled back during Atlantis' launch.
The blanket, covering an engine pod, protects part of the shuttle from the blazing heat of re-entry. While engineers don't believe it would endanger the spacecraft during landing, it could cause enough damage to require repairs on the ground.
NASA has focused intensely on any problems that could jeopardize a shuttle's re-entry into Earth's atmosphere since shuttle damage resulted in the 2003 Columbia disaster that killed seven astronauts.
Training for spacewalk tasks can take months, but Olivas only has had a day to prepare for the repair job. Mission Control had only a few days to develop the procedures, which will use a medical stapler and loop-headed pins to secure the blanket corners in place against protective tile.
While Olivas repairs the blanket, Reilly will install on the outside of the station's U.S. section a valve that will be used for its oxygen-generating machine. Once both tasks are done, the astronauts will help retract a 115-foot solar wing that NASA wants folded up into a storage box so it can be moved later.
The array is now only halfway folded up after two days of efforts by Mission Control and astronauts at the space station. Mission Control hopes the spacewalking astronauts can help shake loose some stuck wires on the solar wing.
The computer problems also created a small inconvenience for the shuttle astronauts: Because the routine dumping of the astronauts' waste from the space shuttle requires a change in orientation, the Atlantis crew was told to use the toilet in the Russian section of the space station so that the shuttle's doesn't overflow.

Korda, who heard arguments in the Anna Nicole Smith case, made a hash of things when he was caught -- and then pleaded not guilty -- to toking-up a marijuana cigarette in a city park in March. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Korda's reeferiffic exploits sparked an official inquiry, which he avoided -- talk about harshing your mellow! -- by stepping down yesterday. Korda, according to his lawyer, was considering retirement anyway.
Hizzoner will be ganja for good on July 2.

It has just been reported by Compatiblepoker that a Bill to increase the poker Cardroom stakes in Florida has officially become law without the Governor's signature. This increased gambling in the US comes after the controversial legislation cracking down on internet poker in the US.
June 15, 2007 -- According to the latest poker news release by Compatiblepoker, Florida will officially be allowed to increase their betting limits at their local poker CardRooms. This comes after huge controversy with online poker in the US. Senators and Congressmen were feudally trying to stop poker betting online but recent changes show that poker is going nowhere. Not only has Florida raised their poker stakes but sites like Yahoo have introduced their own poker games online.
The new law in Florida will allow games of "No Limit" cash tables where players can buy in for no more than $100. The blinds are expected to be set at $1/2 and $2/5 for "No Limit" players. A $5/5 "Limit" table will also be implemented among cardrooms in Florida compared to the previous $2/2 max.
These local Cardrooms might become very active once and if the US Treasury releases regulations to stop online poker deposits in the US. There are still 30 days until banks are expected to act on regulations set by the UIGEA which was signed into law in October of 2006. Hello and welcome to my page
I am planning on posting daily things that I find interesting on the internet. I hope you enjoy these items as much as I do. Most topics posted on this page will be completely random. Just various stories and news tidbits I have discovered today.

Since 1991, planetary scientists have floated the idea that Mars once harbored vast oceans that covered roughly one-third of the planet. Two long shore-like lips of rock in the planet's northern hemisphere were thought to be the best evidence, but experts argued that they were too "hilly" to describe the smooth edges of ancient oceans.
The view just changed dramatically with a surprisingly simple breakthrough.
The once-flat shorelines were disfigured by a massive toppling over of the planet, scientists announced today. The warping of the Martian rock has hidden clear evidence of the oceans, which in any case have been gone for at least 2 billion years.
"This really confirms that there was an ocean on Mars," said Mark Richards, a planetary scientist at the University of California at Berkeley and co-author of the study, which is detailed in the June 14 issue of the journal Nature.
Twin shores
Two major shorelines exist on Mars, each thousands of miles long--one remaining from the older Arabia Ocean, and another from the younger Deuteronilus Ocean, said study co-author Taylor Perron of UC Berkeley.
"The Arabia would have contained two to three times the volume of water than in the ice that covers Antarctica," Perron told SPACE.com.
Somewhere along the way to toppling over 50 degrees to the north, Mars probably lost some of its water, leaving the Deuteronilus Ocean's shoreline exposed. "The volume of water was too large to simply evaporate into space, so we think there is still some subterranean reservoirs on Mars," Perron said.
The remaining sea would have been located in the same lowland plain as the Arabia Ocean, but almost 40 degrees to the north.
Unstable spin
As a planet spins, the heaviest things tend to shift towards the equator, where they are most stable. Earth, too, has a bulge at its equator. The volcanic Tharsis region of Mars, a vast raised area along Mars' equator, is evidence for how this works.
"This is the reason why this discovery packs extra punch," Perron said. More than a billion years ago, he explained, something happened in the way mass was distributed on Mars to cause the imbalanced portion to shift toward the equator-and allow the vast shores of the Martian oceans to warp.
"We found evidence of the path the shift would have to have occurred, and it matches with the deformation of the shorelines," Perron said.
Elastic surface
Near the equator, the surface of a planet stays in a relatively flattened bulge under the pressure of centripetal forces. But outside of the equator, the rock behaves elastically and often bunches up, like the surface of a deflating balloon. Perron and his team reasoned that the oceanic shorelines were once near the equator, but warped into hilly up-and-down elevations of rock as they move towards the north with the tilting planet.
"On planets like Mars and Earth that have an outer shell ... that behaves elastically, the solid surface will deform," Richards said.
By calculating the deformation, which occurs in a predictable way, the planetary research team found the ridges had to have once been flat, like ocean shorelines.
"This is a beautiful result that Taylor [Perron] got," Richards said. "The mere fact that you can explain a good fraction of the information about the shorelines with such a simple model is just amazing. It's something I never would have guessed at the outset."
Perron and his colleagues aren't certain what caused the toppling of the planet, but they think forces beneath the surface are to blame. "There could have been a massive change in the distribution of mantle," Perron said, "which would have caused the planet to shift into its current position."

TMZ has confirmed that Paris Hilton was shipped back to the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood last night -- the same jail where she allegedly teetered on the verge of a mental breakdown. Authorities decided she was OK to leave the medical ward at Twin Towers jail in downtown Los Angeles.
Sources tell TMZ that Hilton has been doing much better with the proper meds, and we're told that there has been pressure on the Sheriff's Department to move her back to the Lynwood jail when the medical facility was no longer necessary. We're told that now Hilton has been deemed "medically stable."
What remains to be seen is if the medicines Hilton was taking will continue to be properly administered .
A rep for the L.A. County Sheriff tells TMZ that Paris was taken from the correctional treatment center at Twin Towers "late last night" and was transported back to Lynwood. The last time she did time at Lynwood, she was in a solitary cell in a special needs unit.
The Sheriff's Department has scheduled a press conference for 8:00 AM PDT. TMZ has learned that the news conference at 8:00 AM will last all of 30 seconds and won't address any further issues.
UPDATE: A Sheriff's rep tells TMZ that Paris will be in the medical clinic at Lynwood until they are sure she will remain medically stable. After that, Paris will move to the same cell she was in before she left the facility.
UPDATE: We're told that Hilton was transferred last night around 11:00 PM.

Since 1991, planetary scientists have floated the idea that Mars once harbored vast oceans that covered roughly one-third of the planet. Two long shore-like lips of rock in the planet's northern hemisphere were thought to be the best evidence, but experts argued that they were too "hilly" to describe the smooth edges of ancient oceans.
The view just changed dramatically with a surprisingly simple breakthrough.
The once-flat shorelines were disfigured by a massive toppling over of the planet, scientists announced today. The warping of the Martian rock has hidden clear evidence of the oceans, which in any case have been gone for at least 2 billion years.
"This really confirms that there was an ocean on Mars," said Mark Richards, a planetary scientist at the University of California at Berkeley and co-author of the study, which is detailed in the June 14 issue of the journal Nature.
Twin shores
Two major shorelines exist on Mars, each thousands of miles long--one remaining from the older Arabia Ocean, and another from the younger Deuteronilus Ocean, said study co-author Taylor Perron of UC Berkeley.
"The Arabia would have contained two to three times the volume of water than in the ice that covers Antarctica," Perron told SPACE.com.
Somewhere along the way to toppling over 50 degrees to the north, Mars probably lost some of its water, leaving the Deuteronilus Ocean's shoreline exposed. "The volume of water was too large to simply evaporate into space, so we think there is still some subterranean reservoirs on Mars," Perron said.
The remaining sea would have been located in the same lowland plain as the Arabia Ocean, but almost 40 degrees to the north.
Unstable spin
As a planet spins, the heaviest things tend to shift towards the equator, where they are most stable. Earth, too, has a bulge at its equator. The volcanic Tharsis region of Mars, a vast raised area along Mars' equator, is evidence for how this works.
"This is the reason why this discovery packs extra punch," Perron said. More than a billion years ago, he explained, something happened in the way mass was distributed on Mars to cause the imbalanced portion to shift toward the equator-and allow the vast shores of the Martian oceans to warp.
"We found evidence of the path the shift would have to have occurred, and it matches with the deformation of the shorelines," Perron said.
Elastic surface
Near the equator, the surface of a planet stays in a relatively flattened bulge under the pressure of centripetal forces. But outside of the equator, the rock behaves elastically and often bunches up, like the surface of a deflating balloon. Perron and his team reasoned that the oceanic shorelines were once near the equator, but warped into hilly up-and-down elevations of rock as they move towards the north with the tilting planet.
"On planets like Mars and Earth that have an outer shell ... that behaves elastically, the solid surface will deform," Richards said.
By calculating the deformation, which occurs in a predictable way, the planetary research team found the ridges had to have once been flat, like ocean shorelines.
"This is a beautiful result that Taylor [Perron] got," Richards said. "The mere fact that you can explain a good fraction of the information about the shorelines with such a simple model is just amazing. It's something I never would have guessed at the outset."
Perron and his colleagues aren't certain what caused the toppling of the planet, but they think forces beneath the surface are to blame. "There could have been a massive change in the distribution of mantle," Perron said, "which would have caused the planet to shift into its current position."

TMZ has confirmed that Paris Hilton was shipped back to the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood last night -- the same jail where she allegedly teetered on the verge of a mental breakdown. Authorities decided she was OK to leave the medical ward at Twin Towers jail in downtown Los Angeles.
Sources tell TMZ that Hilton has been doing much better with the proper meds, and we're told that there has been pressure on the Sheriff's Department to move her back to the Lynwood jail when the medical facility was no longer necessary. We're told that now Hilton has been deemed "medically stable."
What remains to be seen is if the medicines Hilton was taking will continue to be properly administered .
A rep for the L.A. County Sheriff tells TMZ that Paris was taken from the correctional treatment center at Twin Towers "late last night" and was transported back to Lynwood. The last time she did time at Lynwood, she was in a solitary cell in a special needs unit.
The Sheriff's Department has scheduled a press conference for 8:00 AM PDT. TMZ has learned that the news conference at 8:00 AM will last all of 30 seconds and won't address any further issues.
UPDATE: A Sheriff's rep tells TMZ that Paris will be in the medical clinic at Lynwood until they are sure she will remain medically stable. After that, Paris will move to the same cell she was in before she left the facility.
UPDATE: We're told that Hilton was transferred last night around 11:00 PM.

Substance over style. That's the San Antonio way.
The Spurs may be boring. They might not make TV ratings soar. And they certainly aren't America's team.
Maybe they should be.
Rude and ruthless, the Spurs ruined Cleveland's 37-year wait to host the NBA finals on Tuesday night, beating the Cavaliers 75-72 in Game 3 to move within one win of a fourth title.
Bruce Bowen, the defensive stopper, emerged as an unlikely offensive star as the Spurs, who despite not nearly playing up to their usual standards, won anyway to take a commanding 3-0 lead in a series few are watching.
No team has ever come back from an 0-3 deficit. It doesn't look like the Cavaliers will be the first, but they may become the first finals sweep for the Spurs, who are shooting for their fourth title since 1999.
"Oh, it's great, beautiful ... we didn't play good," guard Manu Ginobili said. "We won in a tough arena like this one and we are just one game shy of making it."
Tony Parker scored 17 points and Tim Duncan had 14, but Ginobili, who scored 25 in Game 2, had just three -- all free throws in the final 10.4 seconds -- to hold off the Cavaliers and crush the hopes of their rowdy, towel-waving crowd, who had never before seen their team play a finals game in person.
Cleveland's chances, and maybe their last hopes of extending the season, ended when LeBron James, who led the Cavaliers with 25 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, was short with a 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Bowen, who had just nine points in the first two games, scored 13 and Brent Barry made three 3-pointers for the Spurs, who can all but plan their victory parade on the scenic Riverwalk back home.
"It doesn't change at all," Duncan said of the Spurs' attitude. "We need to get one more, and that's it, however it comes. We know they're going to come out this next game, they don't want to get swept."
The Spurs can wrap up their third title in five years with a win in Game 4 on Thursday night. If they do complete the eighth sweep in finals history, they'll join the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls as the only franchises to win four or more titles.
The grind-it-out game tied for the second-fewest points in NBA finals history, matching San Antonio's 80-67 win over the New York Knicks in 1999.
James, the 22-year-old who saved Cleveland's franchise, couldn't rescue this series.
He scored 12 points in the fourth quarter, threatening to take over as he did in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals against Detroit, with drives through the teeth of San Antonio's smothering defense.
But James had several layups dance off the rim, and he got little help from his teammates as the Cavs went just 3-of-19 on 3-pointers and failed to take advantage on a night when the Spurs were not themselves.
"Game 3 is usually the toughest game possible," Duncan said. "And Game 4 brings a whole other challenge. It's a little bit of desperation. It's a little bit of laying it on the line."
All James can do now is try to prevent a sweep by the Spurs, who are 48 minutes from adding a 2007 title to the ones they captured in 1999, 2003 and 2005. Every other year, it seems to be San Antonio's turn, and this one is no different.
James scored seven straight points as the Cavs cut a 10-point lead to 69-67 with 1:22 remaining on another layup by Cleveland's star. But Parker countered with a 3-pointer before Sasha Pavlovic hit a deep one for the Cavs to make it 72-70 with 48.1 seconds remaining.
Parker, so dominant in Games 1 and 2, made a turnover but the Cavs failed to capitalize. James, criticized early in the playoffs for being too unselfish, passed to Anderson Varejao and the mop-topped Brazilian, nicknamed "Wild Thing," flung up a wild shot that wasn't close.
James expected a return pass, but it never came.
"I was definitely going to get it back from Andy, but Andy made a good move," James said. "He just over shot it. I wanted to try and get a better look, but it was just miscommunication."
Ginobili was fouled, missed his first throw but finally got something to fall through the net to give the Spurs a three-point lead. James again got to the rim for a basket before Ginobili's two free throws gave San Antonio its final margin.
The Cavaliers changed their starting lineup as rookie Daniel Gibson replaced Larry Hughes at point guard. Hughes was bothered by a sore left foot, but Gibson, who has emerged as a star in these playoffs, didn't help much.
He went just 1-for-10 from the field and missed all five 3-pointers, unable to duplicate his 5-for-5 performance when Cleveland captured the Eastern Conference title in Game 6 against Detroit.
"I'd rather not give excuses for not making shots," Gibson said.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 12 points and 18 rebounds -- 10 offensive -- for the Cavaliers, who were hoping three straight games in their own building could help them get back into the best-of-seven series.
Instead, the Spurs have nearly wrapped it up.
The teams played an ugly first half -- with Duncan and James watching a good chunk of it from the bench.
James picked up his third foul on a questionable push off near the basket, and moments later, Duncan was whistled for his third when he apparently brushed Ilgauskas' arm -- TV replays showed he fanned -- as the Cavs' big man dropped a shot in the lane.
Duncan's eyes bulged and he stared in disbelief before heading to the sideline -- James was already sitting and snapping on his warmup -- with 5:24 left in the second quarter.
The Cavs eventually built an eight-point lead without their superstar, but the Duncan-less Spurs got 3-pointers from Barry and Robert Horry, and Parker hit one of his teardrop floaters to put San Antonio ahead 40-38 at halftime.
Hughes was ineffective in Texas as Parker blew past him, spinning like a dust devil all over the AT&T Center's floor. But Gibson was able to stay in front of the Spurs point guard, who went scoreless until midway through the second quarter.
As he did when the Cavaliers returned from Detroit down 0-2 in the Eastern Conference finals, James arrived at the arena more than three hours before the opening tip to get in some extra shooting.
Wearing one of his popular sleeveless, black "Witness" T-shirts and silver sweat pants -- ironically, Spurs colors -- James worked up a healthy sweat while practicing 3-pointers, mid-range jumpers and free throws for 30 minutes.
"It's definitely a big game for us," James said in front of his locker. "It's either about changing the series around or doing the impossible."
And that's just what the Cavs are faced with.

The Spurs may be boring. They might not make TV ratings soar. And they certainly aren't America's team.
Maybe they should be.
Rude and ruthless, the Spurs ruined Cleveland's 37-year wait to host the NBA finals on Tuesday night, beating the Cavaliers 75-72 in Game 3 to move within one win of a fourth title.
Bruce Bowen, the defensive stopper, emerged as an unlikely offensive star as the Spurs, who despite not nearly playing up to their usual standards, won anyway to take a commanding 3-0 lead in a series few are watching.
No team has ever come back from an 0-3 deficit. It doesn't look like the Cavaliers will be the first, but they may become the first finals sweep for the Spurs, who are shooting for their fourth title since 1999.
"Oh, it's great, beautiful ... we didn't play good," guard Manu Ginobili said. "We won in a tough arena like this one and we are just one game shy of making it."
Tony Parker scored 17 points and Tim Duncan had 14, but Ginobili, who scored 25 in Game 2, had just three -- all free throws in the final 10.4 seconds -- to hold off the Cavaliers and crush the hopes of their rowdy, towel-waving crowd, who had never before seen their team play a finals game in person.
Cleveland's chances, and maybe their last hopes of extending the season, ended when LeBron James, who led the Cavaliers with 25 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, was short with a 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Bowen, who had just nine points in the first two games, scored 13 and Brent Barry made three 3-pointers for the Spurs, who can all but plan their victory parade on the scenic Riverwalk back home.
"It doesn't change at all," Duncan said of the Spurs' attitude. "We need to get one more, and that's it, however it comes. We know they're going to come out this next game, they don't want to get swept."
The Spurs can wrap up their third title in five years with a win in Game 4 on Thursday night. If they do complete the eighth sweep in finals history, they'll join the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls as the only franchises to win four or more titles.
The grind-it-out game tied for the second-fewest points in NBA finals history, matching San Antonio's 80-67 win over the New York Knicks in 1999.
James, the 22-year-old who saved Cleveland's franchise, couldn't rescue this series.
He scored 12 points in the fourth quarter, threatening to take over as he did in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals against Detroit, with drives through the teeth of San Antonio's smothering defense.
But James had several layups dance off the rim, and he got little help from his teammates as the Cavs went just 3-of-19 on 3-pointers and failed to take advantage on a night when the Spurs were not themselves.
"Game 3 is usually the toughest game possible," Duncan said. "And Game 4 brings a whole other challenge. It's a little bit of desperation. It's a little bit of laying it on the line."
All James can do now is try to prevent a sweep by the Spurs, who are 48 minutes from adding a 2007 title to the ones they captured in 1999, 2003 and 2005. Every other year, it seems to be San Antonio's turn, and this one is no different.
James scored seven straight points as the Cavs cut a 10-point lead to 69-67 with 1:22 remaining on another layup by Cleveland's star. But Parker countered with a 3-pointer before Sasha Pavlovic hit a deep one for the Cavs to make it 72-70 with 48.1 seconds remaining.
Parker, so dominant in Games 1 and 2, made a turnover but the Cavs failed to capitalize. James, criticized early in the playoffs for being too unselfish, passed to Anderson Varejao and the mop-topped Brazilian, nicknamed "Wild Thing," flung up a wild shot that wasn't close.
James expected a return pass, but it never came.
"I was definitely going to get it back from Andy, but Andy made a good move," James said. "He just over shot it. I wanted to try and get a better look, but it was just miscommunication."
Ginobili was fouled, missed his first throw but finally got something to fall through the net to give the Spurs a three-point lead. James again got to the rim for a basket before Ginobili's two free throws gave San Antonio its final margin.
The Cavaliers changed their starting lineup as rookie Daniel Gibson replaced Larry Hughes at point guard. Hughes was bothered by a sore left foot, but Gibson, who has emerged as a star in these playoffs, didn't help much.
He went just 1-for-10 from the field and missed all five 3-pointers, unable to duplicate his 5-for-5 performance when Cleveland captured the Eastern Conference title in Game 6 against Detroit.
"I'd rather not give excuses for not making shots," Gibson said.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 12 points and 18 rebounds -- 10 offensive -- for the Cavaliers, who were hoping three straight games in their own building could help them get back into the best-of-seven series.
Instead, the Spurs have nearly wrapped it up.
The teams played an ugly first half -- with Duncan and James watching a good chunk of it from the bench.
James picked up his third foul on a questionable push off near the basket, and moments later, Duncan was whistled for his third when he apparently brushed Ilgauskas' arm -- TV replays showed he fanned -- as the Cavs' big man dropped a shot in the lane.
Duncan's eyes bulged and he stared in disbelief before heading to the sideline -- James was already sitting and snapping on his warmup -- with 5:24 left in the second quarter.
The Cavs eventually built an eight-point lead without their superstar, but the Duncan-less Spurs got 3-pointers from Barry and Robert Horry, and Parker hit one of his teardrop floaters to put San Antonio ahead 40-38 at halftime.
Hughes was ineffective in Texas as Parker blew past him, spinning like a dust devil all over the AT&T Center's floor. But Gibson was able to stay in front of the Spurs point guard, who went scoreless until midway through the second quarter.
As he did when the Cavaliers returned from Detroit down 0-2 in the Eastern Conference finals, James arrived at the arena more than three hours before the opening tip to get in some extra shooting.
Wearing one of his popular sleeveless, black "Witness" T-shirts and silver sweat pants -- ironically, Spurs colors -- James worked up a healthy sweat while practicing 3-pointers, mid-range jumpers and free throws for 30 minutes.
"It's definitely a big game for us," James said in front of his locker. "It's either about changing the series around or doing the impossible."
And that's just what the Cavs are faced with.

I am planning on posting daily things that I find interesting on the internet. I hope you enjoy these items as much as I do. Most topics posted on this page will be completely random. Just various stories and news tidbits I have discovered today.

For many Americans, spam is a four-letter word for unwanted e-mail. In Hawaii, Spam is a beloved comfort food, with cans of the gelatinous pork bricks found in virtually every cupboard.
Hoping to cash in on Hawaii's love affair with the pinkish meat product, Burger King Corp. last month began offering Spam for breakfast — going head-to-head with rival McDonald's Corp., which has been featuring Spam in the islands for years.
Burger King is offering the Spam Platter — two slices of Spam nestled between white rice and scrambled eggs. The fast-food giant also offers the Croissanwich or Biscuit Sandwich with Spam.
Denise Yamauchi, Burger King managing director in Hawaii, said sales have been "very good and very promising."
"It's so popular with the locals, we wanted to cater to them," she said.
Putting Spam on the menu, alongside more traditional items such as the Whopper, has been in the works for about a year, and Burger King's corporate headquarters finally signed off on the idea.
"It's something that was a little unique and a little different for them, so it was a bit of a hard sell to bring to Hawaii," Yamauchi said. "But they finally realized it is a unique flavor and something the locals really like."
At a Burger King near downtown Honolulu, where a poster in the window proudly advertises "Spam in the A.M.," the Spam Platter was selling for $3.49. The nearly identical Spam, Eggs and Rice plate across the street at McDonald's was $3.39.
Melanie Okazaki, marketing manager for McDonald's Restaurants of Hawaii, said Spam has been offered at the chain's 75 island restaurants since 2002.
"In Hawaii, it is a very popular menu item and we will continue to offer it to our customers," she said.
Burger King's latest offering is counter to the chain's push to offer healthier fare, including salads and the meatless BK Veggie Burger. But no one can deny Hawaii's appetite for Spam.
Despite being one of the least-populated states, Hawaii leads the nation in consumption of the Hormel Foods Corp. product. It's been a hit ever since World War II. Isle residents consume more than 5 million pounds of Spam a year, an average of about six cans for every man, woman and child.
Spam "musubi" — a slice of Spam atop a block of rice and wrapped in seaweed — is an island favorite sold at nearly every convenience store, including 7-Eleven. Spam fried rice is a local classic.
There are also more varieties of Spam sold in Hawaii than anywhere else. There's Spam Garlic, Spam Bacon, Spam with Cheese, Spam with Tabasco, Spam Turkey and Spam Lite, which featured less sodium and less fat.
"We're pleased to see more and more restaurants adding it to their menu, providing Hawaiians additional opportunities to experience the savory, salty-sweet taste they love," said Dan Goldman, Spam's product manager.

Fans of NBC’s Poker After Dark have a reason to smile, as three new matches make their debut in June on this popular show. Ten more episodes were filmed at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in early May, and this week’s show is the first of these never-before-seen exclusive matches. Once again, each episode will feature six of the best poker players in the world engaged in a $120,000 winner-take-all freezeout.
The new series of matches kicks off in dramatic fashion with “Champions Week,” and like last season, features six players who have each won the World Series of Poker Main Event. Returning to the felt to participate in this clash of poker titans are Doyle Brunson (1976-1977), Jamie Gold (2006), and Johnny Chan (1987-1988). Chan bested Brunson, Gold, Chris Ferguson (2000), Chris Moneymaker (2003), and Carlos Mortensen (2001) in winning this match during PAD’s first season.
But Chan will also have to contend with three new formidable opponents in addition to Brunson and Gold in an attempt to defend his title. Joining this week’s match are former World Champions Huck Seed (1996), Greg Raymer (2004) and Joseph Hachem (2005). This will be our first look at both Raymer and Hachem on Poker After Dark, as neither participated in any of the previously aired matches.
This turned out to be an extraordinary battle and lasted more than 175 hands, a long match given the structure employed. Fans will especially enjoy the epic heads-up battle for the title, which comprises the entire final episode and gives viewers a great look into what goes through the minds of two of the champions as they attempt to eliminate one another and lay claim to the title.
The match will begin airing late night Monday on NBC at 2:05 AM, June 11, and will continue for five consecutive nights in the same time slot. The “Director’s Cut” will air late night Saturday, June 16, at 1:00 AM, right after Saturday Night Live. This show features a behind-the-scenes look at the week with highlights and insightful player interviews, and concludes with the winner sitting down with Shana Hiatt to discuss and analyze the match.

Fans of NBC’s Poker After Dark have a reason to smile, as three new matches make their debut in June on this popular show. Ten more episodes were filmed at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in early May, and this week’s show is the first of these never-before-seen exclusive matches. Once again, each episode will feature six of the best poker players in the world engaged in a $120,000 winner-take-all freezeout.
The new series of matches kicks off in dramatic fashion with “Champions Week,” and like last season, features six players who have each won the World Series of Poker Main Event. Returning to the felt to participate in this clash of poker titans are Doyle Brunson (1976-1977), Jamie Gold (2006), and Johnny Chan (1987-1988). Chan bested Brunson, Gold, Chris Ferguson (2000), Chris Moneymaker (2003), and Carlos Mortensen (2001) in winning this match during PAD’s first season.
But Chan will also have to contend with three new formidable opponents in addition to Brunson and Gold in an attempt to defend his title. Joining this week’s match are former World Champions Huck Seed (1996), Greg Raymer (2004) and Joseph Hachem (2005). This will be our first look at both Raymer and Hachem on Poker After Dark, as neither participated in any of the previously aired matches.
This turned out to be an extraordinary battle and lasted more than 175 hands, a long match given the structure employed. Fans will especially enjoy the epic heads-up battle for the title, which comprises the entire final episode and gives viewers a great look into what goes through the minds of two of the champions as they attempt to eliminate one another and lay claim to the title.
The match will begin airing late night Monday on NBC at 2:05 AM, June 11, and will continue for five consecutive nights in the same time slot. The “Director’s Cut” will air late night Saturday, June 16, at 1:00 AM, right after Saturday Night Live. This show features a behind-the-scenes look at the week with highlights and insightful player interviews, and concludes with the winner sitting down with Shana Hiatt to discuss and analyze the match.

I am planning on posting daily things that I find interesting on the internet. I hope you enjoy these items as much as I do.Most topics posted on this page will be completely random. Just various stories and news tidbits I have discovered today.

Tony Soprano carries on.
The much-awaited conclusion of HBO's "The Sopranos" arrived Sunday night in a frenzy of audience speculation. Would NewJersey mob boss Soprano live or be killed? Would his family die before his eyes? Would he go to jail? Be forced to enterwitness protection? Would Brooklyn boss Phil Leotardo, who had ordered a hit on Tony, prevail?
In the end, the only ending that mattered was the one masterminded by "Sopranos" creator David Chase. And playing againstviewer expectations, as always, Chase refused to stage a mass extermination, put the characters through anychanges, or provide his viewers with comfortable closure. Or catharsis. After all, he declined to pass moral judgment onTony -- he reminded viewers all season what a thug Tony is, then gave him a pass.
But Chase was true to himself, and that's what made "The Sopranos" brilliant on Sunday night, and the 85 episodes that wentbefore. The product of an artist with a bleak but illuminating vision, "The Sopranos" has always existed on its own terms.And it was seldom tidy.
The only neat development in the finale was that Leotardo was crushed. Otherwise it was perversely non-earthshaking -- justone last visit with the characters we have followed so devoutly since 1999.
Here was the funeral for Bobby Bacala, Tony's soldier and brother-in-law, who was shot dead on Leotardo's orders last week.Here was Tony (series star James Gandolfini) paying a hospital visit to his gravely injured consigliere, Silvio Dante, alsotargeted by Leotardo.
Tony's ne'er-do-well son A.J. (Robert Iler) continued to wail about the misery in the world, and voiced a fleeting urge to join theArmy and go fight in Afghanistan (Tony persuaded him to get involved in filmmaking, instead). Daughter Meadow (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) harped on her plans to be a lawyer.
Tony visits his senile Uncle Junior (Dominic Chianese) at the nursing home. "You and my dad, you two ran North Jersey,"Tony prompts him.
"We did?" said Uncle Junior with no sign of recognition. "That's nice."
Despite suspicions to the contrary, neither Paulie Walnuts nor Patsy Parisi sold out Tony. And neither was whacked. Dr.Melfi, who kicked Tony out of therapy last week, made no last-minute appearance.
Sure, headaches lie ahead for Tony. The Feds are still after him. And Meadow's fiance, Patsy Jr., is a lawyer who may wellbe pursuing cases that intrude on Tony's business interests.
So what else is new?
The finale displayed the characters continuing, for better and worse, unaffected by the fact that the series is done. Theimplication was, they will go on as usual. We just won't be able to watch.
Of course, Leotardo (Frank Vincent) hit a dead end after Tony located him with the help of his favorite federal agent. Theexecution was a quick but classic "Sopranos" scene: Pulling up at a gas station with his wife, Leotardo made a grandshow of telling his two young grandchildren in the back seat to "wave bye-bye" as he emerged from his SUV. The nextmoment he was on the pavement, shot in the head.
Then you heard the car roll over his head. Carunnnchh! Quick, clinical, even comical, this was the only violence during thehour.
Not that Chase (who wrote and directed this episode) didn't tease viewers with the threat of death in almost every scene.
This was never more true than in the final sequence. On the surface, it was nothing more momentous than Tony, his wife,Carmela (Edie Falco), Meadow and A.J. meeting for dinner at a cozy family restaurant.
When he arrived, Tony dropped a coin in the jukebox and played the classic Journey power ballad "Don't Stop Believing."Meanwhile, every moment seemed to foreshadow disaster: Suspicious-looking people coming in the door or seatedat a table nearby. Meadow on the street having trouble parallel parking her car, the tires squealing against the curb.With every passing second, the audience was primed for tragedy. It was a scene both warm and fuzzy yet full of dread,setting every viewer's heart racing for no clear reason.
But nothing would happen. It was just a family gathering for dinner at a restaurant.
Then, with a jingle of the bell on the front door, Tony looked up, apparently seeing Meadow make her delayed entrance. Orcould he have seen something awful -- something he certainly deserved -- about to come down?
Probably not. Almost certainly a false alarm. But we'll never know. With that, "The Sopranos" cut to black, leaving usenriched after eight years. And flustered. And fated to always wonder what happened next.

With just about every single media outlet on the planet trying to shove a mic in their faces, Paris' sister Nicky and on-againoff-again-who-knows-what Stavros Niarchos rolled down to Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles yesterday to visitParis -- waltzing right into the building without having to wait in the ridiculously long visitors line. Family members andfriends of other inmates complained that they had to wait for more than three hours.
While she didn't say a word about the situation on her way into the jail, Nicky opened up on the way out of the 30-minutevisit, telling reporters that Paris is, "being strong" during her second stint behind bars. As usual, Stavros didn't say a word.
Nicky's boyfriend, David Katzenberg, drove the pair down to the jail, but Paris was only allowed two visitors. He waited in thecar.

After all, he declined to pass moral judgment onTony -- he reminded viewers all season what a thug Tony is, then gave him a pass.
But Chase was true to himself, and that's what made "The Sopranos" brilliant on Sunday night, and the 85 episodes that wentbefore. The product of an artist with a bleak but illuminating vision, "The Sopranos" has always existed on its own terms.And it was seldom tidy.
The only neat development in the finale was that Leotardo was crushed. Otherwise it was perversely non-earthshaking -- justone last visit with the characters we have followed so devoutly since 1999.
Here was the funeral for Bobby Bacala, Tony's soldier and brother-in-law, who was shot dead on Leotardo's orders last week.Here was Tony (series star James Gandolfini) paying a hospital visit to his gravely injured consigliere, Silvio Dante, alsotargeted by Leotardo.
Tony's ne'er-do-well son A.J. (Robert Iler) continued to wail about the misery in the world, and voiced a fleeting urge to join theArmy and go fight in Afghanistan (Tony persuaded him to get involved in filmmaking, instead). Daughter Meadow (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) harped on her plans to be a lawyer.
Tony visits his senile Uncle Junior (Dominic Chianese) at the nursing home. "You and my dad, you two ran North Jersey,"Tony prompts him.
"We did?" said Uncle Junior with no sign of recognition. "That's nice."
Despite suspicions to the contrary, neither Paulie Walnuts nor Patsy Parisi sold out Tony. And neither was whacked. Dr.Melfi, who kicked Tony out of therapy last week, made no last-minute appearance.
Sure, headaches lie ahead for Tony. The Feds are still after him. And Meadow's fiance, Patsy Jr., is a lawyer who may wellbe pursuing cases that intrude on Tony's business interests.
So what else is new?
The finale displayed the characters continuing, for better and worse, unaffected by the fact that the series is done. Theimplication was, they will go on as usual. We just won't be able to watch.
Of course, Leotardo (Frank Vincent) hit a dead end after Tony located him with the help of his favorite federal agent. Theexecution was a quick but classic "Sopranos" scene: Pulling up at a gas station with his wife, Leotardo made a grandshow of telling his two young grandchildren in the back seat to "wave bye-bye" as he emerged from his SUV. The nextmoment he was on the pavement, shot in the head.
Then you heard the car roll over his head. Carunnnchh! Quick, clinical, even comical, this was the only violence during thehour.
Not that Chase (who wrote and directed this episode) didn't tease viewers with the threat of death in almost every scene.
This was never more true than in the final sequence. On the surface, it was nothing more momentous than Tony, his wife,Carmela (Edie Falco), Meadow and A.J. meeting for dinner at a cozy family restaurant.
When he arrived, Tony dropped a coin in the jukebox and played the classic Journey power ballad "Don't Stop Believing."Meanwhile, every moment seemed to foreshadow disaster: Suspicious-looking people coming in the door or seatedat a table nearby. Meadow on the street having trouble parallel parking her car, the tires squealing against the curb.With every passing second, the audience was primed for tragedy. It was a scene both warm and fuzzy yet full of dread,setting every viewer's heart racing for no clear reason.
But nothing would happen. It was just a family gathering for dinner at a restaurant.
Then, with a jingle of the bell on the front door, Tony looked up, apparently seeing Meadow make her delayed entrance. Orcould he have seen something awful -- something he certainly deserved -- about to come down?
Probably not. Almost certainly a false alarm. But we'll never know. With that, "The Sopranos" cut to black, leaving usenriched after eight years. And flustered. And fated to always wonder what happened next.

Family members andfriends of other inmates complained that they had to wait for more than three hours.
While she didn't say a word about the situation on her way into the jail, Nicky opened up on the way out of the 30-minutevisit, telling reporters that Paris is, "being strong" during her second stint behind bars. As usual, Stavros didn't say a word.
Nicky's boyfriend, David Katzenberg, drove the pair down to the jail, but Paris was only allowed two visitors. He waited in thecar.
